Samsung 850 Pro SSD versus Samsung 750 EVO SSD

Hello,

I am not technically knowledgable and can only look at different specifications, and make assumptions. Can anyone tell me which is a better SSD, the Samsung 850 Pro 2.5 internal SSD 512GB SATA 512 MB buffer 550 or the Samsung 750 EVO 120GB SATA III SSD, with 256GB ? I understand the difference in size (256 v 512GB). Just wondered if the newer, less expensive 750 EVO is a better drive ?

why are you not considering the non pro version of the 850 EVO

850 is better. but for most user, you won't see any different.

The 850 PRO will be marginally faster, but without a synthetic benchmark, you will not be able to tell the difference.
A 500gb ssd will be marginally faster than a 250gb ssd.

Do not be much swayed by vendor synthetic SSD benchmarks.
They are done with apps that push the SSD to it's maximum using queue lengths of 30 or so.
Most desktop users will do one or two things at a time, so they will see queue lengths of one or two.

If budget is of no concern, the 850 PRO is better at equal capacity.
Realistically, the 750 EVO will do about as well and be cheaper.

Regardless, bigger is better; buy a bit more than you think you will need.

The 750 EVO is more of a budget model that features-

■A cut down version of the 850 EVO MGX controller.
■Planar NAND instead of 3D NAND.
■Smaller PCB with only 120 & 250GB versions produced.
■256GB DRAM vs 512 GB on the 850 EVO.
■3 year warranty vs 5 years on the 850 EVO.

Thanks for all technical information. I have the opportunity to buy the 850 Pro (512 GB) for $199 total and the 750 EVO (256), for $81.36. Is the SATA 2.5 v. SATA 3 significant ?
