Can one SLI 2 rather different graphics card?

Hey guys. I've read that you both can't, and can SLI different cards and what not. I'd prefer more specifics. I'm planning on buying the new GTX 1080. I currently have a GTX 770. Could i SLI them or it's in no way possible, or it would do more harm than good?

It's not possible. Nvidia requires the cards to be the same. You can use second card as physx or sell it.

You can't SLI different Nvidia cards with different structures like a GTX1080 and a GTX770. What you are able to do is SLI the same GTX card from a different manufacturer, like two 960 one from MSI and the other one from ASUS but 960 the two of them.

You can try "DifferentSLIAuto" software:
https://github.com/EmberVulpix/DifferentSLIAuto

However, the generations are so different that you might get into issues. Plus the SLI connection for the new cards looks different, so it might not even be physically possible to connect them.
