Hey Guys, so I have a 3TB Lacie External drive, I just built a tower comp and wanted to move it to an internal drive by removing it from its enclosure and connecting it VIA SATA.
Anyway I did that and it pops up in Windows Disk Managment. But it shows up as 2 Partistions one Both are labled healthy Unnalocated. I can only edit one of the partistions. I cant format the drive it is greyed out.

BUT if I put it back in the LACIE enclosure and hook it up via USB it looks like ONE properly sized 3TB Partition that it empty. I cant figure this out at all.

HELP

Welcome to the community, Martin!

It could be a hardware-based encryption on the external HDD as Hellfire13 mentioned. This basically makes the files on your HDD inaccessible without its original enclosure. However, most of the larger external drives nowadays tend to be configured differently inside enclosure using different LBAs (4KB). When you remove the external case, you expose the drive to its native 512e LBAs. This means that even if the external hard drive is not encrypted, you won't be able to access your HDD internally (via SATA) without reformatting it first. Anyway, this will result in data loss, so be careful.

Unfortunately, taking the HDD out of its enclosure most probably voided the warranty on the drive.

Hope this...
i beleive some external hdd are encrypted only to be used with their enclosure...u have to eliminate tht possibility first...
can u also post a scrrenshot of ur disk management with the hdd attached???

wat are the option u have when u right click on the partitions???
