Looking for a CPU compatible with new motherboard

Solution

alright, well good news, cpu update for the 4790k is on msi's site so youll just have to apply it to use the cpu.

check this psu tier list to see where your psu falls in(generally u want tier 1 or 2) especially for video cards ect

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

if ur satisfied with the quality of your other components then thats it.

but for sure make sure ur psu is good enough for ur gpu

"Some Intel Z87 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.
" What would I have to do then? Also looking my parts list would you say everything is compatible? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nfhv8d
I have a CPU cooler and optical drive but couldn't figure what it was as it was from a prebuilt computer

u would need to check the motherboards website for your mobo and see if theres update details the show the i7 has had the appropriate update to run on the mobo. i would contact customer support either way just to be sure.

another option would be to upgrade to a newer chipset standard like z97 ect unless your really committed to using your new z87(unsure if u got it for free or paid)

if you paid for it, kind of a so so situation. older technology but certainly still very capable.

as for your pc build, if we are using this mobo then id like to edit it

Besides the mobo, would you suggest replacing anything? I know will forsure update the RAM but I'm not sure for other key upgrades. and yes the got the Z87 out of my own money and I kinda intend to keep as the ratings weren't poor and I bought it out of ignorance.

I had a pretty built comp so I generally have Everything, the only thing I bought was the power supply, mobo, and the vcard(which I got for 100$, a dope deal from my friend) and I'm planning to get the new cpu. Currently I have 320$ but I can get more over the next month

other then that id look into getting better ram preferribly the same size like 2x4Gb sticks or 2x 8Gb sticks and make sure there on the qualified vendors list of tested memory to be sure.

if ur overclocking(which i hope u are because of the cpu i suggested) then a nice cpu cooler is recommended**
