Hello :)

its been a long time since Ive been on the forums. Anyway,

I currently run:
I5 3570
GTX 660 TI
16 gb ram
etc. the rest isnt as important

However, I am looking forward to purchasing the GTX 1080 as from the 660 ti to 1080 is a huge step.
The 660 uses 6 PCEI pins however the GTX 1080 uses an 8 pin therefore I have to get a new PSU, I was wondering if a 4 + 4 pin works perfectly fine to use instead of an 8 pin?

Also, I searched for a PSU that has a 8 pin but I find is 6 pin to 8 pin adapters, This isnt possible to use in my case right since the 6 pin outputs less power then the 8 pin?

Is there anything I need to be careful of and look out for?

Any help appreciated
Thanks

Im not entirely sure of the brand but I have a 500w Powersupply 80%

Either way Im gonna have to purchase a new PSU, the one I have now has 2 6 pins. I want something cheap though like a good cheap Powersupply so I dont have to spend much

If you never intend to go SLI: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-s12ii620bronze
If you want to be able to SLI: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cp9020093na

Also, there is no such thing as a 4+4 PCIE cable. Careful. Thtat one is EPS/ATX for the CPU. never put that in your graphics card.

Is there anything cheaper I could get ? Or would that be my best option?

That seasonic has a great price/performance ratio. I would think a brand new 1080 deserves a power supply that won't fry it :)
