My pc wont recognise my hard disc

hello i have a problem : the problem is that ive installed a gtx 970 g1 gigabyte on my pc but my psu is 500w so ive tried to check if that 500w is true or not but when i started the computer there was message that says select a bootable device so i though it was bcz of the psw theres not enough power but when we removed the gpu the message was there again ... please help me sry for the bad english... is it possible that the hard disc is fried ?

^ My first step would be to go check the cables, or check in BIOS to see if BIOS is recognizing anything. If it's not recognizing the disk in BIOS, and you do have it powered and given a SATA connection, there is likely an issue with the hard drive.

But oh, how many times I have thought something major was wrong in my machine and taken it apart only to remember that I didn't put the power cable back on my OS drive...
