Well, firstly, what are the specs of the PC you built?
i plan on using a amd fx-8350 for my cpu and a gtx 970 for my gpu
If you can, I would get an Intel CPU. I use to have a FX 8320 OC, and I was not very happy with it. I went with a i5 6600k, and I was so much happier, you don't need to get a skylake, but even an 4th or 5th gen i5 would do you better. Only overclock if you feel like you arn't running programs or games at the rate you want them to perform. Unless you have a liquid cooler, I would only OC if you "Need" it.
Edit: The GTX 970 is a great choice for 1080p, but if you have a little more money to spend, I would wait for the 1070 which is releasing June 10 and the price should start around $379.99. It is supposedly better then a Titan X ( about a $1000), but lets see what the benchmarks say.
