High Internet speed but VERY SLOW download speed

I have a problem about the download speed. My Internet speed is usually 40mbps (according to speedtest.net) but my download speed is usually about 1mbps - 50kbps

Online games play smoothly but downloading files/videos/music etc.
Take more than a hour.

Please reply, i have a video assessment and this takes to long to download :'(

your download speeds depend just as much on the location you are downloading from, as your stated download speed from your isp. you may have 40mbps RATED but you will never download anything at that speed. and if you get less than that, its dependant on the other end where you are getting files from.

never is not a good word to use. i download at my full 100 Mb all the time. it does depend on where you are getting it from but many places easily offer 40 Mb/s speeds.

also possible you are mixing up units. 40 Mb/s is only 5MB/s in actual speed. so that would be the max download speed you can expect. folks often get these numbers confused. You divide Mb by 8 to get MB which is what we normally think of. try something nice and fast from MS or other major site with good speeds.

depending on what/where you are downloading a download manager that will create multiple streams might also improve speeds some.

Nomater where did i get the file from, speed still the same (1mbps - 50kbps).Location doesnt matter.

That’s my question, what is capping my net speed? My connection is stable! even when i force only one device to use the internet (which is my personal laptop) to download, it caps itself to a certain speed

a few tests. does your phone or another pc have the same issue. if they do if there plugged into the modem itself is the error still there. if it is then see if it your isp. in the router try google dns server or open dsn. if the error still there and your using a cable modem...check the wires and splinters. if the splitters are too old they can block cable modems. if your using a cable modem go to there info page print it out or post it settings. on your slow pc download malware bytes see if there malware on your pc. if your using a router make sure the firmware up to date and you dont have leachers on it.
