I ran Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, May 2016 today (for the
first time) on my PC that operates with XP (I usually run Malwarebytes and
Superantispyware).
It did a full scan and while doing this it reported that 6 infected files had been found.
However, when it, eventually, finished, against all the Malware that was listed, it
said 'Not infected'.
Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Hi,

boot in safe mode with networking
goto bleepingcomputer.com
download and run
JRT ==> roguekiller ==> adwcleaner and restart
run malwarebyte anti malware.

If the computer still acts up try running combofix in safe mode.

If after all that the comp still has issues, might be a good idea to reinstall windows

This is why you don't rely on 1 single software for removal. At least run 2 so the ones it doesn't get the other more than likely will. And when you have time always run malwarebytes, it's one of the best. The other 2nd one it can be the one you ran or Microsoft Defender and if that doesn't get it, you're going to have to look into your log and manually track it down by reg32 searches and remove them 1 by 1, good luck!
