Considering upgrading my current CPU from this:

Intel Core i5-4440 Haswell Quad-Core 3.1 GHz (3.3 GHz Turbo) LGA 1150 84W BX80646I54440 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600

to this:

Intel Core i7-4790K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I74790K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600

For the purpose of stopping my system from bogging down. All I really do is play iRacing and stream on it. I've viewed my stats while streaming and RAM barely hits 50% (16GB) but CPU usage hits 80-95% at times.

My graphics card is:

ASUS DirectCU II Radeon R9 280 DirectX 11.2 R9280-DC2T-3GD5 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

and while not the most powerful, should be more than enough to handle the load I would think.

Can someone confirm whether or not this upgrade is worth it? Are the differences in the two processors substantial enough? Thanks!

if you are streaming then the i7 will allow you to dedicate more threads to the video capture, so yes that chip will give you a nice boost. factor in that its stock and turbo speed are far faster and the gaming side will benifit as well.my friend has a 4790K and that exact GPU he can record games easily.
Well, thing is that iRacing isn't extremely CPU intensive so whether or not you'd get a performance increase is debatable. The extra threads might help with streaming though. However, look into getting one of the 1150 Xeons instead. They are pretty much i7s without the iGPU.
