Hey guys, I've just bought a 120GB SSD to go with my 2TB HDD with the aim of putting the OS and a few of my most used applications including documents and downloads etc. on the SSD, and then basically everything else left on the HDD (mainly steam due to the size of the games library).

I was planning on doing this by putting a fresh install of windows 10 on the SSD and reinstalling the applications onto it, then copying the documents and downloads from the HDD to the SSD. I have done enough research to know how to keep the steam games and such on the HDD and direct steam to find the games on the HDD.

My question is (sorry for all the waffle): Can I then uninstall the copy of windows that has been left on the HDD without deleting all of the data that is stored in the program files folders etc including my steam games?

Solution
i wud recommend this...
install the OS on the new ssd(((after detaching the hdd)))...
then attach the hdd...do not remove the OS yet...just copy paste them to another location and check if that games are playable or not...
if it works...voila!!!
if it doesnt, u have to think of other alternatives...
u cannot just do a selective uninstallation...either u do a complete uninstallation/formatting, or u dont...
better u remove steam to another partition(if ur hdd is partitioned) and format clean the windows partition...
the "program files" and other os drive folders work in conjunction with ur os...tht is, as soon as u delete or remove any part of the os, the other folders wont function as well...

Okay so how would I move the steam folders and everything onto a separate partition? As in, would they not have to be in the same folder structure with program files (x86) to function properly or can I literally shove all of it in a folder called Steam at the top level of the clean drive?

u cannot shove all of them just like that...thats why its always recommended to install ur games and important programs separate from OS...

u have mentioned "I have done enough research to know how to keep the steam games and such on the HDD and direct steam to find the games on the HDD."...if u know any way of doing that without corrupting the installations, then u can try tht...

i am not too familiar with steam installation structure...but i believe u have to do reinstallation of the games, if they are indeed on ur C drive...as moving the installation folders will definitely make the games unplayable...

Yeah I realise that I should have kept it all separate now...

So would you say that I shouldn't bother wiping the OS off my HDD and just leaving it so all the applications still work even though I'm using the OS on the SSD? Or would doing this cause any problems?

Okay, I'll try this, thank you very much for your advice :)

I believe there is a program called steam mover or something like that that can move the installations between hard drives or partitions so I'll use that.
