Im making my first gaming build, and was wondering if it's worth the extra $100~ to spend on an i5-4460 as opposed to the AMD anthlon X4 860k

Solution

Basicaly, at this point, the X4 is not even worth buying. That platform is dead and burried.

Thanks guys! I was worried about bumping up my CPU price so much, but it sounds like it's really worth it. :) Though, is it still the best cpu option for gaming under $250~ CAD?

No. There is no reason to not go with skylake. DDR4 is dirt cheap and you can sell your DDR3, if that's what's holding you back.

Here's a barebones build. But if you state your budget, we can expand it further. Btw, that is a GREAT deal on the motherboard on newegg.

Why the i5 6500 instead of i5 4460? This is my set up right now;

A bit more performance but, more importantly, you get a better platform that has an upgrade path to the future, and, if you get the right board, things such as an m.2 slot, usb 3.1 etc, more PCIE lanes etc.
I've updated your build. If you RMA the ram you'll see that theres like a mere $30 difference and you're getting the full z170 chipset all the bells an whistles.
