GOS- Zambia :
Hi All,
Can the Z400 with a 475w PSU support an Nvidia K4200 - do I need to source any extras - IE Front mount Fans..
Thanks
GOS- Zambia,
It is apparently possible to use a Quadro K4200 in an HP z400. There is one such system listed in the results of Passmark Performance Test:
Rating: 3280
CPU: 7516 (Xeon W3690)
2D:
640
3D:
4692
Memory: 1828 (12GB)
Disk: 1985 (Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB)
Compare these reuslts to use in an HP z420 (E5-1660 v2 / 32GB /
Quadro K4200 (4GB) > Intel 730 480GB / Western Digital Black WD1003FZEX 1TB):
Rating: 5064
CPU: 13989
2D:
819
3D:
4596
Memory: 2772 (32GB)
Disk: 4555 (Intel 730 480GB)
So, at least this one example of the z400 makes very good use of a Quadro K4200.
Also, I tried a K4200 in a Dell Precision 390 (2007, Xeon X3230 / 8GB /WD 320GB) with a
375W power supply and results were reasonable with a Passmark 2D score of
456 and 3D of
4066.
It's logical that it may be used as the Quadro K4200 is rated to use a maximum of 105W. It appears that under ordinary circumstances there is not a need for auxiliary cooling. In my use in an HP z420 a quite long, continuous rendering use may raise the temperature to 63C. This is a different situation from the Quadro 4000 which would run up to 95C.
I have been very pleased with the Quadro K4200 in 3D CAD, graphic design, and rendering.
Cheers,
