Do I need to deactivate first the product key before clean installing?
I currently using Windows 10 Pro (upgraded from Windows 8 Pro) and I want to perform a clean install and back it to Windows 8 Pro. I accidentally created a password so that I chose to perform a clean install.

how long ago did you upgrade? If in last 3 weeks you could roll back to win 8.1 using reset

If its more than 1 month ago, you now have a Win 10 pro licence, not a Win 8.1 licence key. It will cost you the price of one win 8.1 pro licence to go back now

now to escape a password problem, best option is do a full reset instead of fresh install.

select settings/update & security/ Recovery/reset this pc

depending on options above, either select roll back to win 8.1 or wipe it all, and reinstall win 10 Pro. PC will restart and do either of these next.

note: if you have a 2nd hdd attached and don't want to have its contents deleted, i would remove it before doing either of these options.
