Is the i5 6500 Worth it? (Need help with CPUS)

I've been considering a couple different CPUS for my latest build (And I accidentally clicked the "select as solution" button because I'm an idiot :p) and I have reached a bit of a dilemma.

If I go with the Intel Core i3 6100 (Which still seems reasonably good) I can fit a much better GPU in my build:

My budget is around £650 btw.

However if I go with the i5 6500 (Which I am told is definitely worth it) then I have to downgrade it a bit and go with a cheaper graphics card.

I need some advice on which CPU I should pick here.

Also note that I will wait until the new graphics cards get released before purchasing, as the prices should go down apparently.

The I3 is the better choice here. Since both CPUS are skylake and thus are the same socket future comparability is even for both. So if you needed the horse power of a more premium processor such as i7 6700k you do not need to change ram, mobo...
I wouldn't use an I3 with the new 1070 and 1080, I'd rather have an I5 as you've been told. So if you go with option #2, are you saying that you're going to upgrade to a Pascal card or get the R9 380? I'm confused, if you're getting a new card when they come out, why do you have the GTX 970 and R9 380 listed in your current builds?

I5 6500 is definitely worth it, but games will give better performance on your i3+Gtx970 setup. If your budget allows, try to go for i5+Gtx970 or the newer pascal cards. But downgrading your gpu will actually give you lower performance than downgrading your cpu in gaming. Also bear in mind that Gtx1070 will cost around £325-350 . So if you are gaming on a 1080p monitor, you can get a gtx 970.
So my suggestion among your options is the i3+Gtx970 setup. It will beat the i5+R9 380 in gaming.

Only nitpick is the use of a single RAM stick, as going with 2x4GB will give you slightly better performance & shouldn't cost a whole lot more.

If you can handle another £25-30 on your budget, then either go for a 970 or wait for the 1070 to come out. However, the R9 380 isn't a bad choice, as it's only a tier below the 970 & a tier above the 960 (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html). So while it's not "quite as good", the performance will be close enough, especially at 1080p or lower resolutions.

If you wait, consider buying a second hand 970 or r9 390 after the new nvidia cards come out, as the marked will be flooded with them. This way, you may afford that i5 to go with it in your budget.

So if you needed the horse power of a more premium processor such as i7 6700k you do not need to change ram, mobo, ect. Just open the heatsink and slap it in. In terms of gaming both CPU's are basically the same, see here:

So I would put my money towards the graphics card, it will be put to better use.
