Xeon W3670 and i7-970 the same CPU?

Would the i7-970 replace a Xeon W3670 in a Dell T3500 workstation? And do so w/o any need to flash the BIOS?

The W3670 is a well binned i7-970 so, physically, it should work. BIOS may prevent it.

Have you overclocked any? The Xeons overclock better (because they are better binned)

Yes. They can be overclocked.

You need specific information from Dell or a T3500 user group. I'd expect the BIOS to prevent such a CPU change.

The CPU is unlocked, so it has an unlocked multiplier. The BIOS on the board you have may not allow it, but that does not change the fact that the multiplier is unlocked. Sorry I was not more clear about it.
