So today I turn on the computer and login and after a few minutes it just shuts off by itself without me opening up any other programs after logging in. I tried turning the computer back on immediately but it wouldn't power on. After about 5 minutes I pressed the power button again and it was able to turn on except this time a smell was coming from it after about 30 seconds and then I immediately turned it off. I opened the case and looked around and nothing looked like it got burned. So I turn on the computer again and this time there's no smell except now right after POST it goes into Windows automatic repair and then goes back into POST and it just stays in that loop.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

If I smelled something burnt, I would immediately scrap the part that was burned. The fire risk is too much. If I had to guess, either your MOBO screwed something up, or, MUCH MORE LIKELY your power supply screwed up. Definitely see the power supply sticky post and get one from their. I would rebuild your system solely out of safety. If you can salvage the gpu, I would do so, but only after stress testing it very well on the new system. It sucks, yes, but it is better than setting your home on fire. Your exact situation happened to me about 4 years ago.
