I'm having trouble deciding which gpu I should choose. For the GTX, I'm thinking of getting a Gigabyte GTX 970 Xtreme. But is the R9 better? I'm looking t a 300-400 budget but I cant decide! Other GPUs can be suggested.

Yes, the gigabyte xtreme is worth it. If you like the style of the gigabyte, go for it.

But once again, I'd HIGHLY suggest on waiting for the new gen to pop out. Prices may even go down a tad bit on some sites for the 970.
The R9 390 is pretty much the same as the 970 at 1080p, but at 1440p it pulls ahead. waiting for the 1070 might not be a bad idea. if nothing else prices might drop slightly on other cards. although if it does land in that price range it will be an absolute win.

The GTX 1070 which is releasing beginning of june, has the performance of a 980 ti to a Titan. For roughly $380... I'd wait.

But to answer your question, 970 unless you want to have a heater for a computer. Along with nvidia, Drivers are a major importance with upcoming games... And nvidia takes the lead... Driver about every 2-3 weeks it seems. AMD releases one in a full moon.

$450 is for the founders edition (the blower style from Nvidia), After market(EVGA, Gigabyte etc) are going to be priced around $380.

I'm more of a Gigabyte guy. Do you know the release date for that?

Honestly, even at 1080p IMO, a 1070 would still slam dunk the waiting period. BUT, if you absolutely had to buy a GPU tomorrow, I'd get a 970.
