I recently bought a Samsung 840 for my pc and tried installing it. I connected it into one of the 6.0gbs connectors on my motherboard (a ASUS P8Z77-V LX). However, whenever i run samsung magician to get to optimizing and cloning it tells me the drive is only connected into a 1.5gbs slot. I only have 2 slots and i know im using the right ones. If I connect it into a blue 3.0gbs slot it reads just fine but says a 6.0 slot is available on my motherboard. Also I tested both slots to see if they were dead and both work fine. Also, I made sure my sata settings were set to ACHI in my bios. Am i missing something? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Hey there, nbradiation.

Basically everything you've done sounds right and showing SATA I is really kind of odd. I've read the specs of the motherboard so the grey SATA ports should be SATA III indeed. It says that there are 2 SATA III slots, so would you be so kind as to try the SSD with the other grey SATA port as well, to see if the same thing happens? Another thing you could do, is to check the SSD manufacturer's website and see if there are firmware updates available for your SSD and install them. You could also try resetting/updating your motherboard's UEFI/BIOS as well.

Go ahead and test the SSD with a benchmark tool (I think you have benchmark test available with the SSD manufacturer's software), to see what kind of speeds...

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

You could also try a different SATA cable. It's possible that when the host controller is negotiating the connection with the SATA device (your SSD), if the cable is not good for some reason (noise, poor connection) it could fall back to a lower SATA version to compensate.

Alright so I just tried everything you suggested but to no avail. However, I just saw the different sata cable suggestion and will try that now.

Alright so the bad news is I have a 2 part problem. The good news is that I have a temporary fix. I found out my motherboard has a bad connection for one of my 6.0gbs connections and so I now only have one connection for an ssd. I also found out through testing that my cable is faulty and so have to buy a new one. Thank you everyone for the help you guys definately saved me from freaking out there.
