Hello community!

I have a Lenovo G510 with i7 4700MQ. I wanna upgrade it to i7 4800 MQ since it supports VT-d. I've asked here before, and it could be possible to do the upgrade since they both have the same socket. The thing is, I wonder if I also have to update the BIOS, since I may need to enable the VT-d function in the BIOS. My current BIOS has no option for it.

Thanks!

The safest upgrade is something from the buying options, for example, if you bought it with i3-4200m and there is an option to buy with i7-4700MQ, safe option would be to upgrade to i7-4700MQ, as you know it's supported, now I don't know if this laptop comes with something better than i7-4700MQ, but I am just telling you the safest option.

Hi Lakimens,

thanks a lot for your answer. Really appreciate it. Anyway, do you mind sharing that article with me? Anyhow, what would be the risk if it doesn't work? Like, could it then fry my motherboard when it failed? I wanna measure the risks before doing this DIY project. Lenovo techies seemed hesitant about this. Probably because it would cost a bunch and there's no profit in doing it. I'm not sure.
