Hi all,

The time has come to upgrade a few components in my system. I spoke to Scan today and they recommended these parts, which fit into my £400 budget -

Intel I5 6600K CPU

Asus Z170 Pro Gaming mobo

16gb (2x8gb) Corsair DDR4 (2133) ram

I already have 2 x GTX 970 GPUs, a Coolermaster haf 212 CPU fan, hard drive (HDD & SSD) and a decent PSU.

Im upgrading from Asrock z68 extreme4 gen3, Intel I5 2500K and 8gb of ram.

Does this sound like a good package or would you change anything? I use the PC pretty much solely for gaming and have a HTC Vive coming at some point so it will need to run that!

Kind of want to order it this afternoon to arrive tomorrow as I've got no patience :D

Thanks in advance

UPDATE: didn't realise how good the 1080 is going to be so will upgrade to that instead following odanaids advice and see how I get on. As you say, selling the 2 970s wouldn't be far off the price of the mobo and cpu anyway! Also spoke to Scan again and a different bloke said just wait. Thanks all

1347 point difference so that answers your question about your cpu again wouldn't bother

i understand the one cpu is 1155 vs 1151 but again benchmarks are disappointing atleast 3000 point difference for upgrade IMO

i cant tell you how to spend your money" or how much you have " cause im a pauper so to me everything comes down to bang for your buck

i mean shit your current budget is close to the 1080 and you can sell the gtx 970 later to put towards a CPU

That does sound tempting. Would my current set up bottleneck that at all? The CPU isn't overclocked but I've played around with it before. I started getting crashes occasionally though so not sure if I want to play around with that again.

The thing that made me want to upgrade is that I now get occasional crashes again, everything just freezes and I have to turn off by the power button. Also in some games (GTA V, Ryse) I get some stuttering, should that be expected with the current set up?

Kind of bored with dealing with sli as well but the main reason I went for it was to run triple monitors, which I still want to do. Thanks

I normally would agree but the i5 2500k do not pass the system requirements of VR. I cannot speak about price as I am in the US. The upgrade they suggested is what you need to upgrade but I would recommend faster ram.

That is generally what people seem to agree on about the CPU, wherever I look. So I'm guessing it'll be good enough for VR also, even though the official recommendation is higher?

As for the 1080, will that beat the performance of 2 970s in sli? And handle triple monitors (5760 X 1080) ok?

It is money I shouldn't necessarily be spending so if I can get better performance by doing the GPU upgrade instead I'm open to recommendations!

Thanks
