Hello everyone, i recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and wanted to transfer some files from an external hard drive to my 2TB Barracuda Seagate drive and as soon as it loads up to 45% - 60% the internal drive disconnects and i have to restart my pc for it to appear again. This has happened again randomly on the same drive while playing games or working both on windows 10 and 7.

Hi there Andreas Mellis,

That is unpleasant. :(

This could be a connection related issue. So, one simple thing you can start with is to just attach your internal drive with different power and SATA cables to another SATA port.

In case the issue persists, it may be a good idea to back up the crucial data stored on it. Just back up the most important stuff in small portions.
Then, you can check the drive's health out with some of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
You can even test both your drives.

If the drive turns out to be in a healthy state and you've already attached it with different cables, then you can go to your MOBO's website and update the SATA drivers.

If there is something wrong with the drive, then you will need to back up all the data and replace.(RMA if under warranty)

Let me know how this goes,

@D_Know_WD Switched SATA ports and cables and the driver seems to be healthy (tested with SeaTools by Seagate), but i can't download the SATA and Chipset drivers of my MOBO cause windows 10 doesn't support them, by the way it's the Assus PQ5 Deluxe. I ended up dividing the 180GB worth of data on 6 30GB packs and they transferred normally. It might actually be a Windows 10 bug because sometimes the file transfer just stopped without the driver disconnecting (The speed dropped to 0 MB/s without it rising again)
