I just received a laptop for free from someone who spilled Coke all over it. The PC stopped working and wouldn't power on, only charging indicator lights lighting up when plugged in to the wall. I tried cleaning up the laptop with isopropyl and got rid of the gunk within the laptop and the motherboard. It still wouldn't boot.

So today I received a replacement motherboard from eBay. The seller claims the motherboard was tested and was able to post/boot. I plugged in everything into the laptop and the PC turns on but nothing shows up on the display and the CPU fan does not spin. I tried using the old fan from the water damaged board and same results followed.

The charging indicator and HDD indicator led both light up but that's it. It would be nice to get this thing running. I also removed the CMOS battery for 5 minutes and placed a screw driver between the negative and positive terminals to make sure all the charge was gone but still the same results follow of leds lighting up with no display or fan spinning.

Laptop: Asus X502CA

Any ideas what would be causing this? Thanks.

Solution
Well the battery may be good, but could be the screen cable or other parts in the case outside of the motherboard are not. Not really easy to check without continuing to replace parts or try another motherboard.

Power needs to get to the motherboard, if the power connection is bad, power button, charging circuit (is it part of the motherboard in this model?), maybe the new board is also bad, battery connections are bad.
