I have had this macbook air for about a month now, I have checked my hotmail many times on it with no issues. Yesterday when I checked it I got a BSOD saying I needed to call this number to get it to go away, I knew it was a scam so I force closed it and it hasn't come back since.

My question is, is my computer at risk now? Do I need to run an scans or anything to make sure my info is safe? Kinda bummed that this happened, the main reason I bought a mac for work instead of a pc is because they are supposed to be more reliable and not able to get viruses.

Solution
BSOD would not say to call anywhere you most likely have malaware on your computer run anti virus scan.
and yes it is true macs will get less problems/viruses but by no means they do not get them
Linux would have the least amount of viruses and such.

I am new to the world of Mac, what is the best program to install/run for anti virus stuff?

There is no "best" per say i would just google it and probably look at free ones with good reviews.
like quich search gave me this http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/best-free-antivirus-software-for-mac/

Curious to find out if your virus scan came up with anything.
As said, Mac's definitely can get infected. In the 10 years I've been using them I've never got anything, and only install a scanner for a day before deleting it and trying again in a year or so.

The fact that its a BLUE SOD suggests it's not a Mac virus, but more of a generic website phishing scam.
I KINDA think someone going to the effort of creating a Mac virus would make it LOOK like a Mac specific error, and not a Windows specific error.
