Will this ram be compatible?

Solution
As all have said the sockets are different and keyed differently. Google your motherboard brand and model and go to the mfr website if you can't find your manual and check what RAM you need.

If you want to add 8GB more it would be best just to buy a kit so you don't have to worry about matching the speed and timings. SO if you want to add 8GB more to go to 16GB just buy a 16GB kit (2x8GB).

No, DDR2 would not work with a DDR3 socket and vice versa. I'm pretty sure the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is the number of Pins and and the Data transfers per cycle (4 vs. 8).
