Hi guys, i have a GTX 750ti and it has just died. I am looking to buy another one for 3D rendering and video games. I was looking at the GTX 970 for a while but with the upcoming GTX 1070, i am not quite sure anymore. Should i go for the 970 or should i wait for the 1070? I would be very appreciated of your help. Thank you very much.

My current build:
Cpu: I7-3770k.
Ram: 16GB, DDR3 - 1600.
Gpu: GTX 750ti.

Solution
It's obvious that they cherry picked the benchmarks. Saying that the 1070 is supposedly faster than the 980ti is redundant because the 980ti already killed the Titan with the same performance for less money. Naturally they mention the Titan. Also in the "New King" graph they showed the 980ti was missing because it would make the 1080 look less impressive.
From what it seems the 1070 is a 980ti v.2, same performance but even cheaper.

The only impressive thing about the 1080 is the GDDR5x memory so far. We will see the Benchmarks on May 17th, so really soon.

But yeah... as I said before - it is smarter to wait for the 1070 to release than to buy a 970 now.

I'm looking to spend about 300$ to 400$ for the card. I use 2 monitors and they are both 1080p. The GTX 1070 seems promising but with limited information and real life tests i am not sure if i should wait for it. My current GPU is gone.

Considering the 1070 will be only about $50 more expensive(MSRP of $379 vs ~$339 for the 970 on newegg) but nearly twice as fast... DEFINATELY wait for the 1070 to release. To make it sound more impactful: you pay 15% more for ~100% more performance.

We do not have the exact specs for the 1070 but nVidia claims it'll outperform the Titan X.

NVIDIA never specified ANYTHING. All their graph shows are numbers taken out of their ass.

We need to wait more real performance numbers from reliable sources. The ones making the card should obviously not be trusted.

How is it twice as fast as a single 970 if the 970 is around 40% roughly behind the Titan X?

Oh, is it?
Yeah, I've must've interpreted something wrong the first time. The Titan X is around 50% faster, not 100%(according to userbenchmark.com). My bad.

+15% premium for +50% performance? I'll take that any day.

Either way, my point stands and he should wait for the 1070 to release.

You have to think that GTX 970's will be heavily discounted when the 1070 is available

They will, but OP said his budget is $300-$400 so there is not much reason to go below that if he is willing to spend that money for the performance he'll get.

The 1070 will be the best deal(performance/$) just as the 970 was back in the day, I really believe that.

No, it's just clever marketing from NVIDIA. Why would they for instance talk about the Titan X, when the 980 Ti is just as fast, but for much less? To make it seem like it's something massive, which in turn will lead to more sales, not to mention their performance numbers....

$379 - picture this being the 1070, heh...

If we use that as an "accurate" benchmark, we see that because NVIDIA said that the 1080 is supposed to be faster than 980 in SLI, notice how they say SLI, which isn't a valid fact, because it depends entirely on what game, and, because they don't mention 980 Ti in SLI, then we should know that it's slower than 980 Ti in SLI, otherwise why wouldn't they just say so in the first place? Would of been way more impressive. And, obviously, SLI doesn't mean twice the performance. They also blurred it even more when they mentioned VR, and after they showed their power efficiency graph. Now we don't know what the new prices for the older gen graphjics cards are going to be, but I don't see anything more than $100 saved by buying the 1070. I'm very interested to see real benchmarks though. But for now, it's purely speculation.

The R9 390 was better price to performance when they came out, that's why NVIDIA lowered prices to stay competetive. AMD did the same thing with the R9 380 to NVIDIA's 960 as well.

NVIDIA are trying their hardest to make consumers pay as much as possible, if AMD happens to not perform as well for the same price or lower, then NVIDIA are likely going to increase the prices depending on how far behind AMD ends up being, to make up for the difference.
