Recently I swapped HDDs and "upgraded" from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Today I was playing a video game that I played before the HDD swap and never had any problems, but after 1 hour of gameplay I got the windows Low Memory warning. I have 4GB of RAM which is more than enough to run this game. I went to the advanced system settings and for some reason windows had 1,6 GB of paging file size. I thought this was a mistake so I restarted and now it's set to 768 MB, while the recommended is 3524 MB. I don't want to get this error every hour but I also don't want to mess around with any windows settings, but should I manually set the values to 3524 as both minimum and maximum, or should I leave it like this? Never had this issue on Windows 8 before.

Windows will grow and shrink the size of your page file on its own, You should'nt need mess with that. Double check how much hard drive space you have on your primary drive. Make sure your Hard drive is'nt full.

You might Consider an upgrade on your ram. 4GB is a little tight by today standards, Windows alone would use up 3.5GB of that space if it thought it could.

I still have 300+ GB of hard drive so that can't be the issue. I was thinking about upgrading my RAM, but I never got the error on Windows 8, only on Windows 8.1, why?

Thats a good question. I'd would leave my task manager open, and keep track of where the ram is being used. That said. If you can afford. Do yourself the favor of picking up atleast another 4 gigs. Its super cheap, And it will do wonders for your general computing experience, Especially on these newer OS's. Honestly if i only had 4gigs of ram in a machine, I'd run XP on it. Just cause these newer OS's really hog the ram when they can. Which is'nt always bad, But it is when you only have 4 gigs of ram =)

Yeah I was already thinking of upgrading my RAM, I was just waiting until it was absolutely essential. The RAM is not being used that much, when the laptop is idle it's only at 36% and even when I get the error it's at 60-70% which is very weird, it's probably a Windows 8.1 issue, I just hope there's a way to get the error to not popup, because it's obnoxious to have to alt tab every hour to close the error and continue.

now it's happening every 10-15 minutes, it's ridiculous when the usage is at 60%.
