Could I use one SSD and alternate between using it with my desktop and using it with my laptop?

To be specific I want to boot from it. I only want to buy 1 SSD and keep the same files on both my laptop and my desktop, so would I be able to use it with my desktop most the time and then simply unplug it as my desktop boot drive and plug it in as my laptop boot drive? (this would be the only storage unit I have for both computers as it is a 1 tb)

yes the license is tied into the motherboard/UEFI. wouldn't work that way. would be nice if it did though i kinda like that idea cause im weird.

Assuming a Windows OS, that will not work.
Licensing and Operation being the two main issues.

If the desktop is always in the same network as the notebook, sharing out your personal files over your home network would be a good way to keep the same files. You can map a drive and use it almost like having it in the system(I say almost because some software will not run over a network share).

Another option is a portable drive since bringing the OS is just not going to work(see above).
