if my cmos battery was bad or not working, would it only reset my bios time? or will it reset my bios and windows time? also i went into my bios one time and got out of it, didnt change anything. some voltages went slightly up and some went down in speedfan. for example my 12v said 12.17 before and it had gone to 12.2-12.10 why did it do this? and occasionally it would go back up to 12.17v. do my voltages change when i go into my bios even when hitting quit without saving?

motherboard: Gigabyte H97M-D3H micro ATX

The only thing a CMOS BAttery does is help store the BIOS Configuration.. So if you removed it or it went dead, not only would you loose Windows and BIOS time, all BIOS settings would reset to Factory Default.. If you had updated the BIOS any no. of times, all the updates along with additional functionality would be lost..

That is why, when somebody looses the BIOS Password or when updating the BIOS some incorrect voltage/setting is applied, Removing the CMOS Battery resets the BIOS to the Motherboard default Factory settings..

Hope this helps, :)

Hi,

It would most likely affect your windows time, as Windows relies on your CMOS battery for the time.

Voltages go up and down all the time! Chillax. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless you are noticing other symptons like hot temps, and what not, it is nothing to worry about.

I doubt the OP changed any settings with voltages, he seems to be a bit of a novice (no offense sir). Sorry, did forget to mention about BIOS resetting to stock settings.
