Ok so my kid tried to build his first computer and basically did all kinds of mistakes.. After I have helped him and gone trough a lot ot troubleshooting and I cant find the problem., I think Its either the CPU or the motherboard, But not sure, on boot no sounds are heard and I cant find a green mb light , all fans are spinning + cpu fan, but no monitor, keyboard or mouse.. And a solid cpu red light is shown

First things first here are the parts:

2x nocturna nf-f12 120mm fans
1x cpu cooler from cooler master: Hyper TX3 Evo cpu cooler
MB: MSI B150 gaming M3Socket-1151
Hyperx Fury DDR4 16GB kit
I7 6700k Skylake

So he couldnt wait for me to help him build it so ha built iit himself without so much knowledge about this and now I have tried to fix it basically built it backup from scatch and I discovered a bunch of mistakes he did:

- First he had the old mb standoff srews touching the mb.. (i fixed this , but not sure if this caused a shortage or not)

- He placed the mb on top of the audio cable (also fixed)

- Did some mistakes with the cpu cooler parts, so it was a big hassle to but this ontop of the cpu , but i do not think i broke any of the pins for the CPU as they are much smaller then typical CPU pins ive seen.

- Used way to much heatsink and spilled it on the mb and cpu (tried to clean this up with nailpoolish removal but coudnt get everything away, for most part no heatsink is on the cpu pins)

At this point im not sure which way to proceed ., any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Solution
msi isnt the msot difficulet one with rmaing, i broke my msi board and my company didnt trouble weith rma it.

now you can try to bend them yourself back, or you rma it.

in all honestly i would try it a pinsett.
alright, make sure you used to use the pea method to apply a small grain of rice.
than screw in the cpu cooler with the x method ( first screw left top than right bottom than right top than left bottom/ something like that).
and attacch the cable to the 4 pin on top of the motherboard that said cpu 1, something like tat but not sys.

pull back the notches of them ram slot and slide 1 stick of ram in (put the 2nd ram stick in later), n and u will hear 2 clicks and the notches will slide back.

we are not going to screw the motherboard into the case , we do that later if we can get the thing to work.

-so now grab the opwersupply and put the 20+4 pin cable onto the right end of the motherboard.
-now grab the 4 pin cpu cable and put that on top left of the motherboard right next to the cpu slot.
- next attack the sata power cable to the hard drive or ssd.
- now connect the hdd/ssd wit a sea cable to the motherboard.

now connect the 6/8 single pins onto the bottom of the mobo correctly, check your manual.

grab an hdmi cable and connect the mobo to the monitor

now power on the pc and all red lights should flash right (cpu dram Vga), and u should get screen in 20 seconds.

if this works hold the power button and the pc will shut down and were going to put everything in place.

ill take alook at this as soon as he wakes up.. You are basically saying I should unscrew everything and build it again outside of the case ? also take out the cpu ?

I did use the pea method for the cpu, and also the X method for the cpu . Ive also tried with only one slot of ram. One thing I failed to say is that the power supply is faulty or bad connection in the end (need to wiggle it a little to get power, but this worked fine with the old system)

its a super high quality pwoersupply , believe me you rather want this than a corsair cx 750w.
so your son did a great job ordering that, altho it can not handle any card due the low wattage, but the cards that it can handle are getting safe power.

anyways, I'm sure we are going to get this thing to work.
and not going to remove the cpu. if you're sure u applied enough paste than were good , but don't use nail polish again to remove thermal paste .

update typing this from a laptop with a stronger grammar correct, sorry if u ar getting confused:p

he has a pretty strong GPX card so im pretty sure it will have problems but enough about that ., Im not gonna say anything about your grammar since Im Norwegian and my English is probably full of typos :)

I did not use nail polish , but nail polish remover , what is the right thing to clean up this paste then .?

ty for super fast response ., I hope I can get this system fixed., cause at this point im stuck

They say, the only way we get better at things!

Is to learn from the mistakes we make.

So what is first in the order of the list to check in a logical order.

1. That the motherboard and the Cpu bought are designed to be used with the correct listed cpu socket.

2.That the motherboard and it`s current bios firmware revision support and recognise the cpu bought when fitted into the cpu socket of the board.

3. That the cpu has been fitted correctly in the right orientation of the cpu socket, and has suffered no bent pins to the cpu it`s self or the cpu socket of the motherboard, by inspecting both.

4.That as you have already found there is no short circuit due to an extra board stand off touching the back of the motherboard. (Resolved).

5 That all power required for the motherboard is connected, The eight pin 12v Eta power plug to the motherboard.
And also the 24 pin Atx power block to the motherboard from the Psu.

6. That before attempting to turn the system on the Cpu cooler is correctly and firmly fitted to the cpu with good contact.

8. A red cpu light, indicates that the motherboard is most commonly of the Asus brand of motherboards.

The red light can mean, the cpu is not recognised by the current version of the bios firmware flashed on the motherboard.

Or the wrong type of cpu is fitted for use with the cpu socket of the motherboard.
Or it has been damaged and either the cpu pins are bent or the contacts of the cpu socket are damaged if of the LGA type.

That there is not enough, or the correct voltage connected to the motherboard to power the current cpu fitted in the cpu socket (Check that the eight pin 12v E-atx power block is connect from the psu.

7. Factory default the bios to it`s Initial settings.

The best bit of advice is to start from basics.

By that I mean just the cpu fitted.
Use the on board graphics solution of the motherboard first of all.
With no Pci-e based card fitted to the board, and a single stick of memory in the motherboard.

Making sure all power to the motherboard is connected.

Ok so I have now tried to start it again. still same result; red cpu light , (CPU fan was spinning) no sounds when im trying to launch it. I tried to boot it with 2 different power supplies - so thats not the problem. I did not remove the CPU but when i locked on the backside of the mb all CPU screws were correctly placed . I tried to launch the computer with only one DDR4 installed in the DIMM 2 slot. what next :/
