Hi guys,

I am ordering an ASUS Skylake motherboard and while reading online on asus, I read from the following link:

https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1015837/

that Skylake and Braswell platforms require USB 3.0 drivers to be preloaded in order to use USB keyboard/mouse during Windows 7 installation.

I have USB 2.0 also in the ASUS motherboard I am ordering. I want to install Windows 7 using the normal method using the ODD as the boot drive etc. I do not want to preload USB 3.0 before installing Windows 7 etc.

Is it possible to install Windows 7 directly without preloading the USB 3.0 driver? What if I use only USB 2.0 for the mouse and keyboard during installation?

Also, if this is possible, will I be able to install USB 3.0 later?

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!

Regards

Incorrect! Or better: Only correct IF your board has USB 2.0 ports. If you grab a Intel 100 series board for Skylake you will most likely not have any.
If your board supports EHCI emulation for USB3 you might be lucky. Otherwise it is optical S-ATA install only.
