I've got a Travelstar and I got to plug it into an old PC from 2006. It has a SATA, but I'm slightly worried about compatibility of SATA-1 and SATA-3 since some modern HDDs have to be set manually with a jumper to switch to slower, older mode.

Hey there, noneatall168.

Basically the SATA interface is backwards compatible, so you shouldn't need to do anything since the the it does not use the master-slave configuration. The only thing that different SATA interface affects, is that you'd be bottlenecked by the lower SATA interface - e.g. if you use a SATA III drive on a SATA I port, it will be capped at 150MB/s since this is the maximum speed of SATA I.

As for jumper options, you should be able to find that in the drive's User Manual, which should be on the manufacturer's website.

Hope that helps.
