i just built myself a gaming computer and when i try to run games it can barely run the main menu. ive installed all the drivers and they are updated, my friend has the exact same build as me so were not sure why he runs dayz at top settings with 60+ frames and i cant even run it with 2

That would be your problem. The Cables must be connected to the GPU, otherwise it is just sitting there doing nothing.
I would attempt to find the converter, although since its analog to digital it might be a bit flakey

OK. My guess is that, in BiOS, your GPU is not set as default...
You have to reconnect your monitor to the motherboard, and go into BiOS, and find the graphics setting, and set that to the main GPU. Then reboot, plug in the adapter and cable to the GPU, and that should do it.
