Ok, so I'm upgrading from a single 270x.
I'm also not concerned with running games at the absolute pinnacle of graphics intensity. I want games to run smoothly, and I don't want to have to worry about upgrading for about 2, maybe 3 years. I built my current system on a budget, and I'm very.... fiscally minded.... when it comes to purchasing. lol Also, I'm in Canada.
Some details;
Gigabyte UD3 990FX V4.0 mobo
12GB PC3-14900
725W Cooler Master EX2 PSU
FX-9370 CPU
Samsung 840 EVO 128GB for the OS
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB for the games
ASUS R9 270X 2gb for the vroom vroom
System's.... 3? years old.... need to upgrade the vid card IMO.... wouldn't mind replacing the x2 2gb sticks with x2 8gb sticks, (24gb total) but I want to do the video card first.
What I'm considering;
R9 390 - 8gb is nice, will load all textures well (I'm doing 1080p gaming btw, no interest in 2k or 4k atm) I'm looking @ $400ish + tax.
R9 290x 4gb- some nice factory refurbs for decent prices, $250-300 + tax
970 GTX - Feels weird using an AMD CPU and Nvidia GPU, but I'd consider it. Doesn't seem like the best bang for buck.... but I'll hear arguments.
Crossfire 280x - Buy 2 of them, and rock Crossfire - can get them for about $180-200 a piece..... I know about the issues with Xfire, and I know some games don't support. Still seems interesting, 6gb total VRAM, and x2 GPU's is appealing.
Crossfire 270x - I have one, can get a second factory refurb for $130. Def the cheapest option, but I'd like to hear from current Xfire users, on how it works with most games. Is micro stuttering really that bad? Does it happen all the time? 6Gb total, the card I'm looking at is 4gb, where mine is 2gb. I really WANT to like this option, but I'm thinking a single card might be better.
So many options, I want to spend as little as possible, but I want to be ready for 2+ years of gaming. I appreciate all opinions, and thanks for reading this ridiculously long post. lol
