Hey guys i've been out of the loop for quite sometime and here's my specs of my old gaming pc

Intel E8400
Asus P5QSE PLUS
EVGA GTX 260
4GB Mushkin DDR2
Kingston SSD now 120
OCZ modstream 520W

i dont mind spending some $ on a video card or a processor or even both, and if i can find used parts, that would be even better. i'm looking to play newer games in medium settings!

Solution
The PSU you have will be able to handle the overclocking and new GPU. GTX 9xx don't use too much power, nor does the E8400. I would agree with the first comment.
At this point, I wouldn't plan on dropping too much on an old rig given that you will eventually have to bite the bullet and get a new tower. Stretch this one as far as possible, and then get yourself a new rig when funds are available.

overclock that cpu, get 8gb of ram total

drop in a gtx 950 and you should be able to play most newer games on medium

I am sure the 900 series of nVidia cards will plummet in price in a few weeks. And there will be A LOT of them up for sale on ebay and forums when the new GPUs come out. I plan on selling my 980s soon.

Also, that CPU is getting kinda old. Same with the platform. I know a new CPU/MB/RAM combo can be pricey but you will need to step up sooner or later. Start saving some cash.

i have an old viewsonic vx922 and i'm planning to invest in a 27" led soon, so any resolution would be fine.
i'm looking to play overwatch, crysis, league of legends, sc2, cs go.
