I'm using an external hard drive as storage for a DVR workaround. Can I attach a 2nd USB component to the hard drive somehow?

Hi! I have a DVR workaround device that takes over the air signals and records them onto an external hard drive via a USB cable. Both the converter box and the external hard drive only have one USB port each. What I want to do is attach the external drive to my wireless router as well via USB so I can wirelessly download the files elsewhere using a home network.

Does that make sense, and is this something that can be done using a USB hub or something? I'm having trouble finding an answer that fits my scenario online.

That was my thought - they are all one USB port devices and I was hoping to plug all three into a hub, but I wasn't sure if I'd be able to access the hard drive using the router since the drive was technically going to be 'downstream' in that configuration. I'm just not entirely sure how hubs work in that regard.
