What's the rule?

I'm building a cheap 9 monitor rig with Craigslist/Ebay hardware, and I'm new to the build side of computers.

I keep hearing that. Why do they say that? I buy used parts for cars, and other items from Craigslist and the Thrift Stores regularly because clip corners as much as possible out of consideration for myself. Penny earned is a penny saved habits are how millionaires made their ways. The bigger percent of things I've bought that were ripoffs were new because I can't test them or open the packages like I can used things. The used stuff I can usually see sellers' reputations are first or inspect the thing in my hands before I buy it.

How do I know if the mobo is too weak for the graphics cards or the graphics cards are too weak for what I need to do? Where is the stats and specs on this stuff? :??: It's like no one has put that stuff together out there before.

We have no idea WHAT you plan to do with it or why there is a requirement for 9 monitors, basically you aren't providing any info for people to work with. Would sort of be a waste of our time to tell you to look for one thing and have you come back and simply say, that won't cut it. The somebody else might waste some of their time to point something out and get the same response. If needing to run 9 monitors it sounds as though something serious, so I wouldn't skimp on parts

Okay, I'm making a news and trading station for following world news, research, and keeping tabs on stock and futures charts constantly day and night here next to my bed/office. These aren't high speed gaming graphics, but I can't have lag or latency without costing more than what's necessary for gear purchases. I'm breaking into the business after 3 years of day and night studying and practicing not already made and ready to buy the best hardware money can buy. Cheap but adequate is best.

I'm building a shelf out of the lumber they give away on craigslist for free. I'm going to be funded by a firm, so I don't need big money to get in. I just need to prepare for their trials, and they'll take care of the rest.

These monitors will go on the shelves, and I'm not sure I won't just screw computer boards into the wood instead of into a case to save money or not. I don't care about looks.

I've heard of splitter cables, SLI bridges, eyefinity and crossfire. If these or anything else can cheapen the build by reducing hardware I need, that would be great.

Radeon 7750 2GB GDDR5 6M (6x MiniDP)

What motherboard does this graphics card go with? I mean I'm thinking I buy two of these you know. Make note these are not for audio. I don't need any audio, but I know I would bridge the two graphics cards together, sooooooo.............. would I need a SLI bridge or what? Does anyone know anything? It's not for gaming purposes, but some day I'll make a giant game machine since I'll be a millionaire.

The wall of monitors will be used for a strew of things. Some monitors are for second by second buying and selling information about how many shares or contracts are being bought, sold, and sell/buy orders setting at specific price levels. Some monitors are for slower stock info, and some are for CNBC, Bloomberg, and Fox Business News. Most of all it's for the stock trading activity information though and very few for the live news feeds. I might just run 2 live news feed per monitor. :/

What should I do here? I'm being cheap, guys. Like right now I'm fixing people's smartphones, laptops, PC's, 2000 corolla, and personal and business/political lives it seems like at home and everywhere online. I haven't caught my big break yet, but with this rig, it's going to hit me soon since I have practice my skill sets and built up my strategies and insider connections up for 3 years all day, night, weekends. I must have ran few 55gal drums of coffee through me already.

I used to run an Arborist Tree Service as the head climber and owner or 6 years, and a I ran a bike cab business in down town before that while I was going to college and trying to work my way up to Minor League Baseball. General San Diego, California, and Federal politics smoked both of those businesses out of the water, but I learned a lot most of all I learned what kind of business I need to be in to be sure I make it to making a family without another business failure.

Question from oathmark1 : "Can I run SPLITTER CABLES out of this Eyefinity 6x miniDP G. Card?"

Independent monitors - not clones. You can configure them as one big screen as far as I know. If the monitors have the ports, you can also daisy-chain them with displayport too - they are independent monitors in that case also. Displayport is pretty cool.

Multiple threads asking the same basic question have been merged into one thread.

What is your budget for all of the hardware/software needed for your multi display config? How large an area will the displays occupy? Do you have sufficient space/power for multiple displays?

What level of service are you getting from your ISP (up/down)? Will you be using a dedicated IP (business service) or regular consumer level service?

Do you need all system components or do you have some items now that you would to "recycle"?

Details like these will help members make recommendations. BTW, to drive multiple displays (per the requirements you have discussed thus far), you need a fast computer (mutlticore) with plenty of memory and multiple GPUs capable of driving multiple displays. This is a good config for Displayport capable displays/GPUs. This is going to drive expenses up. Also, as you going to be pumping a lot of pixels to multiple displays, you need a strong desktop/workstation rig to handle the load. We really need to know what you can afford to help.

Look at that. How far can you go with something like that? What if I have one graphics card port, and say 20 of these hubs? Just hook them up, and create a giant octopus monster of DP tentacles and monitors. Who has experience with this specific set up? What am I missing?

By the way, I'd like to keep the budget well below $700 this round of build. I'm sure I'd drops several times that into rigs later on if that's even necessary to get a great deal and system, but for right now I'm learning the right way which is cut out all waste master precision capitalistic arrow head.

Very nice. How laggy is that thing though in comparison to whatever else I'd be making. Just a note: this isn't a gaming wall. It's a trading and new watchman wall.

$700 and you need 9 displays? Sorry, but unless you are cobbling together free (nearly free) stuff, that isn't going to come close.

I don't believe the device you cited above can be daisy-chained as you propose. Think about it, your PC still has to process all of the video and send to the various displays. For that matter, you can daisy-chain displayport capable displays to a video card like the one you mentioned earlier and perform much of the same effect.

The more displays you drive, the more pixels you have to process. That means more CPU and GPU horsepower.

Do you have a PC and any displays now? If so, what do you have?

Let's say 10 for now, but it's starting to look very cheap to me, so I picked a number like 48 monitors to see what you guys know. That guy in the video says he's pushing 7 displays through a 7port 3.0 USB hub out of a laptop. That's impressive. Between USB and DP hubs, I'm suddenly looking at a cheap project here rather than thousands of dollars everyone else is spending.........I think hehe.

My budget is $700 well below there as much as possible sheer capitalist arrowhead making here. Cut all corners at all costs no matter how dirty or awkward I have to get.

I don't have anything right now except one monitor that I would use. My computer hardware here is a laptop and an ol' Dell Optiplex 755 hehe. I'm going to buy the $10 monitors from Craigslist locally. There are so many of those.......

The main question is what is the Pixel to CPU/Horsepower ratio? I think if we laid that out, it wouldn't be just me that would be much better off for knowing that secret knowledge.

Look at this guy and his USB hubs. In this one he's driving 14 displays from one laptop. This is crazy, right? Is anyone here aware of this technique and technology?

The lag on that multi-display config will be significant. It will not be suitable for day-trading. Fairly static, low-res stuff, maybe. If latency is a concern, the above options aren't for you.

You really need to save some money before spending on tech that is sure to disappoint.

Ya, I don't even care what the business looks right like now. I just care about cost and productivity even if I have to nail the main boards to a board, hehe. It's called habit of high precision capitalistic arrowhead making. Works with little money as well as it works with million and billion dollar budgets.

I'm a trader/news watcher a few years into this. I need monitors to display my trading apps and news feeds. I'm getting to big for a 15" laptop display.

I'm in the middle of what plugable.com guy has to say. I need to fix the tie rod on my other half's corolla, and then align the stearing right now. I fix everything around the house; cars, computers, and lives. hehe. Youtube and chat forums go along ways to one's education these day. :)

How in the world does anyone know how many pixels the CPU and GPU can push on these rigs, if no one can answer that one question? Is there even an answer because I've been asking people everywhere online for 2 weeks, and still no answer.
