Hi guys! Building another new system for my son. I want to keep it around 1000. Dont need an OS monitor mouse case or keyboard. Will reuse the WD Black for storage. Wont OC right away but would like the option for later on. I picked Asrock because ive not had any issues with them or Asus. I cant really wait for the new GPU's to come out. Is everything compatible? Just need it for gaming and surfing on a single monitor.

If you're looking for a solid, but not premium 1080P gaming rig with OCing, I think your original is good.

You can save some money getting the slightly lower tier but still very capable EVGA B2 750W: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr
It's only $50 with MIR, or $80 without.

I'd have a hard time justifying spending that much on the motherboard too. There's an MIR at the moment on the ASRock Extreme 3 Z170 board: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z170extreme3
It's still SLI ready. You do give up a few USB ports, a second NIC, two M.2 slots and the premium power delivery for extreme OCing. But it's still got one M.2 slot for future high speed storage and should handle any "normal" sort of...

Everything is compatible, but if gaming is the more important focus, it's best to weight towards the GPU first before an overclocked processor:

I would consider both of those options. I dont like micro atx boards.. can you find me one that isnt that is a decent board by either Asus or Asrock?

Did they come out with a set release date yet? I thought I saw July last time I checked.

Have you got updated confirmation of that yet? Source?

On launch day sites were advertising MSRP $379 for regular, with $449 for "Founders editions". I still haven't seen solid confirmation that we'll have good availability of $380 cards from day 1. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Founders editions as the only ones in stock so Nvidia can cash in on early demand.

That's all speculation on my part though, I'd welcome updated/confirmed sources!

Back to OP... what resolution is the monitor? If it's a 1080P@60hz monitor, there's minimal gain at the moment for a 980ti over a 970. Why not save a bit of money now and upgrade the video card in 2-3 years when it's struggling. Of course if it's a high frame rate or high res monitor then the 980ti will hold up better and may well justify the additional cost.

Also OCing is not set in stone.. I just couldnt find a MB that I really liked other than the one listed and even that one im not 100% sure on. I am open to other options im just leary of other makers mostly because the last few builds ive gone with either Asus or ASrock and they never failed me.

Yeah, but we know the "founders edition" (fancy name for reference designs) are $449. And, as far as I know, Nvidia still hasn't officially confirmed that the cheaper partner cards will launch on day one, nor made any comments about availability. I may well be proved wrong, but I'm expecting to see very little to no availability of partner cards at launch, with the only cards in stock for the first while being the overpriced founders editions at $449. This is just speculation, but it's what I'm expecting.

Despite my reservations about the new Nvidia card launch dates and prices, it is still pretty sad to purchase a 970 right now with it's successor so close and looking to be a good chunk faster. You are sure it's not worth waiting a few weeks at least to see what actually happens at launch?
