My mother in law's laptop Fujitsu Lifebook AH512 running win8.1 has a problem with certain tasks when trying to type in. The problem is that the cursor reverts to the beginning of the phrase being typed after certain letters including"a". This only occurs in IE, search bar of File Explorer and when trying to login to her microsoft account (both typing in her ID and password). Office is not installed at present but it certainly occurred in Word 2013 previously. All other typing performs as it should......
My guess is that this is a Windows Update problem after extensive work on this laptop including reinstall(recovery) and after formatting the hard drive.
If Windows 10 is installed this does NOT occur in Edge but in all other programs mentioned above. Please help as I am tempted to bin this otherwise perfect machine!!

Solution
The only thing I can think of is to try using a keylogger to see what is happening when you type. It could be possible that the keyboard is inputting extra commands that only register on certain applications where it might not effect others.

So this is also going to sound terribly silly, have you tried turning off or disabling the trackpad (if possible) and see if that resolves the issue when typing? Have you tried an external keyboard just to see if there is any difference? I'm just trying to toss out things that could have an effect even if unlikely.

I never thought about the keylogger but all the other possibilities I have tried, thanks. So I will try that before Microsoft's advice to update Bios which is an option almost as scary as binning the laptop haha!!

I will post the result here later. Thanks very much for your input.
