Looking at getting 1080 gtx would this motherboard cause bottlenecks? Maximus 7 Hero or should I upgrade that too?

Motherboards don't cause bottlenecks unless they are older (or AMD) PCIe 2.0, or you're trying to SLI or crossfire with not enough lanes. This board has neither issue, as long as your processor is good enough.
