I had a corsair cx500m for 8 months and it blew on me. I ordered a new evga g2 550 psu and connected everything, checked the cpu 4 pin was connected etc. When i power on the psu the mobo light is working fine, but if i press the case power button i get a blue flash for a split second and then nothing, fans dont start or anything. Ive tried just booting with 1 stick of ram snd just thr mobo, cpu and gpu but still nothing. Ive tried reseating everything too im really stuck here guys, any help?

Nothing changed. I assume its a mobo issue?
The psu i ordered didn't spin the its fan when i testd it, could it be doa?

My mobo didnt have an 8 pin to plug into and the psu only came with a 24 pin on one side, and a 18 and 10 pin on the other side.

When you say your "PSU blew", did it just quit or did it spark, smoke, crackle? If the latter, it is likely that it damaged something on the motherboard. You may want to take apart everything and remove the motherboard from the case and carefully inspect the entire surface (front and back) for signs that something shorted out, or capacitors blew.

Another thing you could do is borrow a PSU from someone to see if that powers up your rig, in order to rule out your new PSU as being DOA.

So i plugged the old psu back into the build and when i press the power button, All the fans spin for a split second including the old psu. I have to switch the psu on and off again to replicate this effect. Ill try it with the new psu too.

Ok so i've plugged the new psu in and only hooked the 24 pin up to the mobo. The power switch turns all fans on (including the cpu fan) and everything spins.

When i plug in everything else all seems fine. But if i plug in the 4 pin cpu the entire pc doesnt spin or turn on.

What is my solution to this?

Just tested a different psu the same way and again, all the fans span including the cpu fan when the 24 pin was plugged in, but nothing span when the 4 pin was in.

Surely the board is working due to all fans spinning (including the cpu fan) when the 24 pin is connected and everything else except the cpu 4 pin. If i put the 4 pin in nothing seems to spin, so surely this means that it's the cpu.

I sadly have no other cpu to test it on.

I just had the same problem and after reading this thread I got to the bottom of it. My mobo takes a 4 pin 12v from the power supply and my new psu came with 2 four points that were clipped together in the center. I split them as usual but on accident I plugged the wrong one in. One half of the clip has 4 of the rounded plugs and the other half has 2 square and two rounded... seems the rounded ones fit into squares and it all seated properly however I had to make sure the plug matched my socket. Problem solved, for me anyway.
