Choosing Laptop : Dell Vostro or Inspiron?

Which series of Dell laptops are better? Vostro or Inspiron?

The only difference I know is

- Inspiron series has only 1 RAM slot while Vostro has 2 slots

- Inspiron series has glossy screens while Vostro has matte screens.

Other than that, anybody can give some more insight?

Vostro is aimed more at business while Inspirons are geared towards consumers. Not a lot of difference in hardware. I know that the Vostros also don't have all the bloatware installed like the Inspirons do. Pick the one that has the features you want.

very hard to tell between lines or even between manufacturers as most brands are made on the same production lines as their competitors and Dell doesn't actually "make" a laptop. I'd guess the differences are more marketing that desisgn,

Quanta sells to (among others) HP, Lenovo, Apple, Acer, Toshiba, Dell, Sony, Fujitsu and NEC
Compal sells to (among others) Acer, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo and HP/Compaq
Wistron (former manufacturing & design division of Acer) sells to Dell, Acer, Lenovo and HP
Inventec sells to Toshiba, HP, Dell and Lenovo
Pegatron sells to Asus, Toshiba, Apple, Dell and Acer
Foxconn sells to Asus, Dell, HP and Apple
Flextronics (former Arima Computer Corporation notebook division) sells to HP

The only way to really know what is in any particular laptop design wise (other than CPU / GPU) is to select all the components yourself using a Clevo distributor.
