980 ti sli or GTX 1080

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place i have a gigabyte g1 980 ti that can play most games at 4k at 45-55fps. SO the question is do i just buy a another 980ti for like 400 or sell mine and try out for the 1080 but i would wait for the aftermarket pcb for the 1080 thoug. but the way im fully watercooled so if i get another 980ti i need another wb same with the 1080

I would always advise for the single video card if possible. I don't really have any benchmarks for 1080 so can't really determine its value right now.

The best thing is to sell the 980 Ti and Get the GTX 1080, a SLI GTX 980 Ti wont do you much as some games do not support SLI, single card is the best. Plus the GTX 1080 will be around $599 and faster than a titan x. Plus less power consumption it will be using 500w where the GTX 980 Ti SLI will consume much more power creating more heat.

TL;DR Get a GTX 1080, less power consumption faster than Titan X.

No real benchmarks besides leak ones with 60fps in most AAA 4k games with fire strick extreme of 8900 my highest with my 980 ti is 9423 oc to 1545mhz and 8150 memory i play doom 4k at 40-53fps on my single 980 ti

The thought that not many games supports SLI is garbage and spoken by someone who clearly does not know. Below are 2 links that show a TON of games that support sli. Almost all new games and even alot of slightly older ones meaning within the past few years have sli support because sli is growing not shrinking like alot of people would have you think. The 1080 will boast "newer" tech however 980ti sli will be faster. so its your choice. IF you can sell your current 980ti for a great price then i would probably sell it but if you cannot get a good price for it i would keep it and find another 980ti on sale or a used one someone else has been talked into selling and not doing sli, get you a waterblock (probably be on sale too) and rock out with 2 980ti's in sli.

Not sure where you are getting your number buddy but a single 980ti only uses around 225w so for 2 you would need about 450watts for the gpu's. A single 980ti does not use 500w nore will the new 1080.

Even the HEAVILY overclocked cards max around 300 watts on the 980ti's

not to worried about power usage i use a evga 1300 and heat issue i live in Colorado and doesnt get to hot and fully water cooled with 2 60mm 360mm rads with EK Vadar fans and energy is pretty low here. Here is plan 1 and 2. 1 i would have the money to get two 1080 sli and the waterblocks when they come out if i sell my G1 with the waterblock for at least 450. Plan 2 i can get another g1 for 400ish and a waterblock for another 100. So im leaning towards the 1080s sli or the single so i have the money when the new intel processors come out this july-august time frame

if you can sell the card setup for 450 and that gives you enough for 1080 sli then i would go for it. However with as cool as the reference card ran with that high ass overclock it had on it water cooling the card probably wouldn't do much for you. I would get the 1080sli try it out and see what their temps are when sli'd and under full gaming load then if you wanted to waterblock them you could. Honestly though that 1 BLOWER reference cooler with a 2.1ghz over clock on it was maxed at 67c. Think about a custom cooler from msi or evga. Card will probably be running at like 55c full load. I dunno i would if you can do 1080 sli.

if i dont watercool then its kinda a waste of part i already have and the case the i modded for watercooling, i really want to wait for a Gigabyte 1080 to make its face shown in this debate

If you look up i listed 2 sites that show a TON of games that support sli. There are literally a crap load that do support and not to mention future games that are coming out that will support sli considering its fast paced growth.

i do run a acer 4k 60hz G-Sync and the game that do support sli (which is pretty much all AAA) performance increase from 10-80%

Yea anyone who says sli is not worth it either A) Had sli back in the earlier days or B) Has just had some random bad experience and refuses to give it another shot. EVEN the few games that don't support it you can just disable sli or really you dont even have to disable it you just play the game.

honestly look at the mathematics from benchmarks in the earlier cards look at the gtx 970 the gtx 980 and the gtx 980 ti only a 10 % increase between cards I have a gtx 980 ti i'm using now only to see a decrease in frames over the 2 gtx 970s I have on the shelf right now , if I knew then what I know now I should of stayed with the gtx 970 in sli over the gtx 980 ti , honestly I can't see much of a increase between the gtx 980 ti and the gtx 1080 , the gtx 1080 is coming out on may 27th then the gtx 1070 coming out on june 10th , the best bet will be wait till the others buy it and benchmark the cards and see for yourself prior to being gullible

Considering the new numbers that have come out today the 1080 is barely faster than a 980ti so i would opt for 980ti sli for a great price over the 1080. Pick up another 980ti and wb and call it a day. The 1080 is not as impressive as eeryone thought it would be although it is the new fastest kid on the block

All the benchmark video i have seen are reference card vs reference cards ( pretty sure they were made to do that) so far my single 980 ti OC is actual preforming better then their reference 1080 with no oc. but what i really want to see is theyre aftermarket PCB with a oc. there is a rumor of a Gigabyte 1080 extreme with it being able to OC to 2.5ghz on air. i want to see the benchmarks on the aftermarket and oc

1080 was 30-40% faster than the 980ti in every single benchmark in 4k. Lower resolutions don't really matter - either card can handle them easily. This is a substantial increase in one generation. SLI 980ti would be faster, but create way more heat and use way more electricity $$$ (225W x 2 = 450w for just the 980ti SLI vs 180w for single 1080).

All games nearly "support" SLI, its the terminology that is being used incorrectly. It is the optimization of games that some do better then others in. From the looks of it, a 1080 will do just fine for anyones gaming needs. Its us enthusiasts who have to have the best and most powerful. I was planning on upgrading to SLI 1080s but doubt I will until the 1080TI or Titan variant comes out.

Im gonna order 2 of those and do my SLI. I dont even care if they cost 1500 each.
