Hey all,

This is going to seem like a noob question, but here it goes. I am interested in getting the MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition. I want this over other boards mainly because of the great color scheme. Here is a link to the motherboard:

Motherboard Link

My question is this: I only plan on using one graphics card with this. The motherboard has the word "SLI" in its name. Does this mean you have to use two graphics cards with this motherboard? Does this motherboard have a penalty in performance for just using one graphics card like I plan on doing? I will never use SLI, and I only ever plan on using one graphics card with this motherboard. The thing that worries me is that since this motherboard has "SLI" in its name, it makes it seem like it was made specifically for only SLI use.

Thanks for the help.

Solution
Advertising, the Krait lines of mobos haven't gone over well, and adding SLI to the name on a lower cost mobo is an attempt to drag in customers, more a marketing thing

Thanks for the reply. What bothers me is, on a motherboard like the MSI Z97 Gaming 5, they do not have the world "SLI" in the name, even though it also supports SLI. Why did MSI feel the need to put SLI in the name of this motherboard, even though many of their other motherboards support SLI?

It was probably cheap enough that one would presume it does not support SLI, so they put it in the name to market it. Otehr than that, you'd have to ask their marketing team. Relax.
