Hey guys! My last upgrade had me throw in a new mobo (p8vz77), i4770k, and another GTX 670 for SLI gaming back in 2013...I've blacked out for the last 36 months while furiously crushing souls in Planetside, Rocket League, GTA, and DOOM...it is good to be back but I've been out of the hardware loop!

I will be picking up the new GTX 1080 for sure to play on my 1440p monitor.

Just checking that my i4770k is still the glorious overclock-able beast it was 3 years ago!!...or is there another CPU architecture I should be looking at to maximize my new GTX 1080??

thanks for the advice!

Solution
While there is skylake (6700k), you should not need to upgrade your processor any time soon.
It should support a 1080 without any issue, and probably the generation following as well.

just to reiterate what other have said said, your CPU is still more than powerful enough to be able to achieve what you want, you shouldn't need to upgrade your system for quite a while with the installation of the GTX 1080.
