I have been reading up on the Z170 chipset since I have been out of the loop for a couple years (last build was in 2012). Specifically I have been looking for a motherboard that can support 2-way SLI and two M.2 drives in PCIe x4 RAID 0, while STILL having SATA ports available for large storage drives. The SLI should not be a problem... 16 lanes from the CPU does not interfere with chipset storage options. However, all the motherboards I have looked at (and scoured manuals for RAID configs) seem to disable almost all the SATA ports if a PCIe x4 RAID 0 is set up.
- I am fine with either (2) M.2 slots on a motherboard or (1) M.2 slot and (1) PCIe slot for creating the raid.
- I would like two or more SATA ports available after the RAID is implemented for additional storage.
- My search has been in the <$200 range so far, but I would like to know of higher priced options too if I am not going to find what I want at that price. Sticking with the Z170 chipset however... already have a CPU.
Thanks in advance for any help! This is my first time posting to the site, so please let me know if more information is needed.
