Hi all I'm new here so i apologize if this has been discussed in another post already. In my old rig I'm using an Asus P6T v1 mobo and an I7 920 2.67ghz. I'm looking to start overclocking the cpu (new to OC but I will learn) but it currently has six 2Gb sticks of ram. I read that it would be easier to overclock with three sticks of ram rather than six. My question is this ram

compatible with this board and cpu? I can't see why it wouldn't be but for some reason PC Part Picker said it was incompatible with this mobo/cpu. Also would I be better off buying faster ram such as this

which is quad channel but i only plan on using three sticks 12Gb. Also this ram comes stock at 1600mhz and i7 920 only supports 800mhz and 1066mhz without OC. So would i be better off buying ram thats stock 1066mhz like the cpu supports or the 1600mhz (just using these two sets of ram as exmaples I'm certainly open to suggestions if anyone has a better idea) and let it bog down til I learn how to OC it to 1600mhz. Any and all advice or tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks a bunch ahead of time.

Solution
That's a 4 stick set of Ripjaws and they should work, even with all 4 sticks (in A1, A2, B1, B2) and will run in dual channel mode, might need to up the DRAM and the MC (memory controller) voltage, which is the QPI/VTT

Thanks for the Response Tradesman going to try and post these links again cause I have no clue why they went bad. These are the first sticks i was looking at since they should run at stock speed straight out of the box but for some reason Part Picker said they were would not work with mobo.

would you only recommend using triple channel ram or something? If my links die again I suppose its just not meant to be lol.
does running ram that is faster than your cpu supports not a bad thing i guess is what I'm asking. as long as its DDR3 and TRI or Quad channel right? Again thanks for the response, i really appreciate it.
