I got a build, but im not really sure what PSU to get.
Im on a tight budget and am willing to go upto $80 or so..

My build:
-IntelCore i5 4460
-Zotac Nvidia GTX750Ti
-Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3
-Corsair 8GB DDR3 RAM
-Cryorig H-5 cooling fan
-Western Digital 160GB SATA2 Harddrive.
-Dazumba DE130 case

Pls recommend a good suitable PSU for this build.

Oh and need suggestions for a good monitor too. I'll be usingy this PC mainly for gaming like CS:GO and Dota2.

I prefer the monitor to be 20.5" or under.

Solution

you really don't need a lot of power, so a small affordable decent PSU is fine. an EVGA 430W would be ok, it won't get stressed or overloaded, and should have the right power pins for your graphics card (i didn't check, so do that)...

Try running a FX-6300 and a GTX 960... Much better graphical performance for around the same price. I can recommend the EVGA 500B power supply. Reliable performance for only $30 USD. The only downside is that it is non modular (you cannot remove cables that you do not need). I would just use a 1TB HDD instead of that SSD. Much more storage and storage drive speeds don't really affect gameplay. I can recommend the Sceptre E225W-1920 60Hz 22.0" Monitor. It's a bit bigger than you would like but it's a great 1080p monitor for a great price.

everything you advise is bad.

top to bottom.

1 the i5 will beat every single way any fx chip, an i3 6100 will beat every single fx chip too (except the 8350 in a handful games) but most too. and has got an upgrade path the 6300 doesn't.

2the evga 500b is a horrible power supply made by hec.

3) a ssd might indirectly improve gameplay by 1-2 fps because it can access quicker data.
however I'm not going deep into that no, a ssd will but up windows faster load maps way faster that can take over 1min.
it opens programs faster and tasks fasters. that experience u can get from that is amazing and makes everything feel snappy and clean, also 250 gb is enough for 4 triple a games and a lot smaller ones and windows. so add a 50dollar 1tb hdd later with ease.

4 1080p monitors with 60hz is in 20 inch too its all about preference.

plenty of other decent name-brand options. XFX 550W will likely be great too.

I try to recommend parts that I have used/am using.

I have had no problems with my 500b(I upgraded to a 600b later) because I got it for dirt cheap and sold my 500b.

Games now days are mostly GPU intensive and the CPU isn't as important. The 6300 (when overclocked to 4.5ghz) will offer similar performance to the i5 for a much lower price. Since he said that he is going to mostly game the cheaper 6300 will help that tight budget.

I imagine that the owner would like room to upgrade/expand and I have used that PSU in the past.

sure nothing wrong with that.

because you don't have problems with it now doesn't mean its reducing the lifespan of your other components, lagg stutter and black screens will appear faster. its the most important part of the pc

the cpu is still really important an no the i3 won't give the same fps in certain games like the i5 does.
take gta 5 for instance.

by the time a decent budget / mid-range PSU is worn to the point of causing power delivery issues that result in lag or stutter, the whole machine is due for an upgrade anyways. having tires good for 850,000 miles is pointless if you're leasing for a 48-month term.

I guess the only thing that we can agree on is that the 750ti has got to go. Heck, if he waits I think that the GTX 970 prices are going to drop like a rock.
