Hello guys,
Recently there was a good deal on the OCZ Trion 100 960gb for like 250$ US dollar, my brother send me the link and I told him to get it it was cheap and i heard that OCZ improved their SSds lately but couldn't check reviews had exams.
Now, my brother wants to use it as usb storage so he bought it with a sata 3 to usb 3 conveter, pluged it in the laptop and nothing happens he gets notification in the task bad same that happens when you plug flash drive when he clicks he doesn't see the drive only safely remove option and drive isn't shown in explorer.
He contacted the seller and he told my brother that it needs 2 usb connections 1 for power other for sata reading i told him that's not true usb converters already power up hdds that needs greater power how it can't power up SSds anyway he bought it pluged SSD using the new converted and still same thing happens on different 3 laptops, I asked my brother to go to device manager> disk drivers and he didn't find the drive then told him to go to disk management and still no luck.
First is there a solution for the problem?
Second, My brother doesn't have a desktop PC so he can't try to use it internal and he's not that much into tech stuff so it'd be hard for him to take his laptop apart and use the SSD as the laptop main drive and I can't do it for him we living in 2 different countries, so is it worth the effort to try to disassemble his lappy and put the SSD and try it and check whether it'll work or not or he should instantly ask for RMA? seller told him he's not responsible that the drive is not working as usb storage and told my brother he has to use it as internal so should my brother give it a go or tell him anyway its' not working? I read now reviews about the SSD and realized what a crime I made telling him to get it, help appreciated.

Hey there, Amroraby Oraby.

Well you are right about the SATA to USB adapter, you shouldn't need anything more than that to transfer data and power up the SSD. On the other hand in some cases a Y USB cable is needed in order to properly power up a drive. As for "the drive is not working as usb storage" part and responsibility, I don't know what that's supposed to mean as a drive is a drive - if it works it should work both with external and internal connections. On the other hand it would be nice if you brother could test those USB to SATA adapters with a different internal drive (a 2.5" one as the bigger ones - 3.5" need external power), to see if the same thing happens as they could be at fault as well.

If your brother can't swap the SSD for the hard drive in his computer, he can go to a computer service shop and have the guys there replace it for him, to see if it's working properly, or have them test the SSD without swapping both drives.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.
