Image above : Running Prime95 on small ftt for heat benchmark

Greetings everyone,

I am having very high idle CPU temps around 45-50°C weather in my room is around 20°C
when i play games my cpu temps go up to 70-80°C and the games are unplayable
very bad performance and a lot of FPS Drops

My CPU is Q9950 and Intel says its TCase max is 71.4°C also i did some research to other peoples temps and results are that the TJunction max temps are arround 71-75°C

I am not an expert with temps and all so i though you guys could take a look because i cant understand if my cpu is throttling why my clocks are not downclocked ? i was running Prime95 results as well with temps monitoring and no downclocks

CPU - STOCK FAN
Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550
(12M Cache, 2.83 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

Solution
Are u sure the CPU Fan/HEAT sink is properly connected.. Cleaning out the CPU/CPU cooler and re-applying a good thermal paste like GC-Extreme should do the trick.. Sometimes CPU fans also mal-function, they spin & everything but don't transfer heat so might need to be checked with a verified working cooler..

A Deepcool Gammaxx 400 awarded EDITORS CHOICE 2016 for a $28 should do the trick if u need a new cooler..

Your CPU doesn't seem to be throttling. It's running higher temperatures than usual but that's it, nothing else to it. Bad performance might be because of the CPU's power instead. Or maybe something is going on with your drivers who knows. Doesn't seem anything more than CPU running a bit hotter than usual.

Thank you for replying to me,

A bit hotter? specs of this cpu says TCase max is 71.4°C and other peoples max temps on the same cpu are arround that
you think in my case the temp is not that important? when is aw these temps i was like so scared

Also it cant be the CPU power because i was playing the particular game i play with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6550 without any problems and my friends have very worse cpus and systems so its not about the power its something darker

It could not be the driver or the gpu i guess because i just reinstalled windows today perfect clean install just because i could not figure out the problem reinstall did not solve anything same bad performance

i am lost thanks for replying again

Thank you for replying to me and thanks for the Cooler link i was looking for one and i was about to get hyper 212 evo which looks pretty much the same with the one you send me

Its not more than a month that i replaced my old CPU with the Q9550 so the cpu and thermal paste application is very recent im going to open my case right now not sure what to look for tho

No the temps are definitely very high..

I am writing this from an E8400 and my room temp is 30C.. My max cpu temp is 47C..

Another thing u can check is borrow a CPU from a friend of yours, and if the temps are high with the 2nd cpu also, then probably it is time to get a better cpu cooler..

im gonna definately buy the cooler you told me about im lil scared to buy it and not solve my problem because
i dont really know what is going on im nota tech guy all i know about temps was from a today research

and since i found the TCase max of this cpu is 71C and tjuction max about 75 then my cpu is definately degrading/throtling whats your opinion?

Tcase temp is something different, you are looking at core temperatures which relate to tjmax which you can see in your video is 100C. Your CPU isn't throttling as while 80C is hot its not close enough to 100C.

Not a wise decision to buy a cooler until you know for sure,, Can't u test both the cpu & cooler in one of your friend's PCs ??

fair point nick tho the tjmax you see in the video is what realtem thinks my tjmax is thats why i am comfused because
if you research about Q9550 Tjmax is arround 75°C thanks for replying me

I have couple other cpus im gonna try them but im like very confident my cooler is bad because its a stock one default intel a good question would be how i survived till today? i was using another stock which i brake its pins by accident so i used a newer stock which might be a little retarded so as about tjmax and temps

Realtemp says my tjmax is 100C so having 80C is safe as 20C away from throtling but could you please do a research about Q9550 because i found that q9550 tjmax is only 75ish i hope i am wrong

but the gaming performance pointing there thanks again for your time

I can't find any info that says the tjmax is 75C. If Intel made the CPU like that then it would be throttling at 80C as that's a higher temp, but it isn't so it would suggest the 100C temp is correct.

Are you using the cooler from your old E6550 on the upgraded CPU?

Your previous processor was 65W, and the new one 95W. I'm not sure, but I would expect Intel to bundle a better cooler with the Q9550. If you're using the smaller one from your previous CPU that would explain the high temps.

The Tcase Temperature is the maximum temperature allowed at the processor Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) -- the boundary between the CPU/cpu-cooler.. so don't read too much into it, if u can also borrow a cpu cooler -- repair guys will usually have a lot of spare coolers lying around.. You can confirm for sure that the cooler is the problem, 'cos CPUs go bad too.. Otherwise you might end up with an unnecessary cpu cooler/expenditure..

See here specs for the Q9550..

http://ark.intel.com/products/33924/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q9550-12M-Cache-2_83-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB

The temps on ur Q9550 are definitely high, see this guy's temps are max 51/53C..

https://hardforum.com/threads/normal-heat-range-for-q9550.1514126/

Another setting you can apply in BIOS is set the CPU fan profile to FULL..

Great info according to this site i am running to the limits 80ish temps so hopefuly temps are my issue because if its a bad cpu im gonna cry i bought this recently

i dont know differences between stock coolers but my old one is just a lot biger and q9550 looks very smaller like this
http://www.pcper.com/images/reviews/776/heatsink.jpg

what is ur opinion?

There are certainly different Intel stock coolers for different processors. I don't know to be honest whether they're the same, but the Q9550 was a premium (and power hungry) CPU when released so it would certainly make sense for it to come bundled with a beefier cooler.

I would usually agree with others about isolating the issue before spending money on a cooler, but given the 212 EVO is so cheap and may well simply solve the problem immediately, it seems to be a good solution to me. If you still have the performance issues with an EVO then you can be pretty sure it's a bad CPU. In that case you can still use the cooler with a replacement CPU. It'll keep things cooler and quieter, so is a good investment regardless.

Why don't you pick one up and see if your problems go away?

Great ima order a cooler right now thanks for your time

By the way i never used after market coolers and EVO and all other beefy coolers look so huge
you think i could fit that beefy beast into stock coolers position?
that heatsink under the cooler scares me
